BIO

Anthony Golden is a Double Bassist, Composer, and Arranger currently living in NYC. His playing is raw, supportive, hardcore, and spans the whole range of human emotion. His musical taste is heavily influenced by Black American Music, creative improvised music, and American counterculture. In addition to performing at high profile historic venues such as Smalls Jazz Club, Cafe Bohemia, Minton's Playhouse, & the Newport Jazz Festival, Golden has logged extensive time performing on the NYC streets and subway platforms. This combination of influences and experiences have culminated in a sound designed to command one’s attention, then overpower the listener with love.

Hailing from Denver, CO, Golden grew up surrounded by Blues Music- he attended his first Blues Festival at the ripe age of 1 year old. He began performing professionally on electric bass At 9 years of age. He eventually transitioned to the double bass, in 2018 earning himself a scholarship at the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Jay Anderson. Since arriving in NYC, Golden has performed alongside pros such as Marc Cary, Greg Gisbert, Steve Carrington, Davis Whitfield, Adam Arruda, Rico Jones, Winard Harper, Shane Endsley, Victor Jones, Stafford Hunter, Joe Block, Eric Gunnison, Brad Goode, Kabelo Mokhatla, Uros Markovic, Danny Raycraft, Rob Mullins, and Paul Romaine. He has also played bass in the gospel choir at Cure d’Ars Church in Denver and is a founding member of The Splifftet.

Golden’s ultimate goal is to leave his audience inspired to help others. He has been blessed to witness the healing power of music from a young age, where his family made a point to take him to as many benefit concerts as they could. Here, he watched musicians help encourage people to raise money for other musicians after Hurricane Katrina, for disabled children interested in music, and for individual artists facing excessive expenses they could not cover on their own e.g. medical debt. In Summer 2020, as part of the national response to the senseless and disproportionate police killings of innocent people of color, Golden helped to organize a series of Concerts for Justice. These Concerts helped to raise several thousand dollars split between the Floyd Family’s drive for daughter Gianna, Black Lives Matter Colorado, and the NAACP legal fund. he continues to make efforts to give back to the community in any way he can.

Golden’s ultimate goal is to use his music, voice, and privilege to make the world a better place for all.
